Marketing
Most
businesses use advertising to bring traffic.
But whereas a business can also simply hang a sign and hope for traffic,
a web site will be invisible without site marketing.
To be seen, your site must register with various search engines and directories
- some are free, others require fees. To improve your search engine rankings, you should also set up "reciprocal
links" - related sites mutually referring customers.
There
are hundreds of search engines on the web, but about two dozen of these account for 99+% of web search
traffic! Your site must be marketed by someone who understands the Internet
search engine industry and can get your site expertly placed and visible.
Text on your web pages and certain "behind the scenes"
aspects of your site must be optimized for search engines -
be sure to get an expert for this work.
Regional and/or
specialty directories may also make sense for your site. For example if you specialize in wedding
photography, it would be advantageous to list your site in a wedding
services directory for your region.
