Purchase a Good Site Hosting Plan

Site hosting is like leasing business space from a landlord: they supply space, power, water etc., but you remodel to suit your business. For web sites, you lease a hosting plan which provides a web server, software, disk space, and high speed Internet connections. Once you have a hosted site (e.g. an Internet address), you can associate your Domain Name(s) with it and design and build your web site.

Shopping for a hosting vendor can be daunting - they offer a bewildering array of features and plans and make all sorts of claims. And of course, they ALWAYS mention their strengths and NEVER mention their weaknesses!

Most web sites need the following:

• Shared Hosting Plan
• Windows or Linux or other UNIX
• Multiple high-speed data links to the Internet
• Scripting - any language (PERL, ASP, PHP, CFX etc.)
• Site Statistics - any package is OK
• Tech Support, including 24 hour telephone support
• Commitment for site uptime: 98% or better

Choose your site hosting vendor wisely. Changing vendors after a site is up and running is no fun at all - AND your site may be down a day or two during the switchover.
