a Really Great Domain Name
When
you see "yourbiz.com", you are looking at a Domain Name.
This is the Internet equivalent of filing a "Fictitious
Business Name" with your local government. It
is an officially registered name you can use for your web site,
but is only a name and not an actual web site
yet. That is, until you host your web site somewhere and
link it to your Domain Name, it doesn't really point to anything.
You
can lease as many Domain Names as you wish - some people register
every possible name related to their business, including common
misspellings!
It is vastly better to use names related
to your products or services rather than your business name. Unless your company is IBM or General Motors, people will not be searching for your site by name. A name such as "www.cheap-auto-parts.com"
is easier to promote than "www.biffsautosupply.com".
Choose
your Domain Names wisely - you will have them
for years. |
