For web sites, you rent a hosting plan which provides a computer, software, disk space, Internet connections and an "Internet address" for your web site. Similar to renting business real estate, you can pay low rent or high rent, but you usually get better service and options by paying a bit more. Once you have established a hosted site (e.g. an Internet business address), you can associate your Domain Name(s) with your new web site address and design and build your site.
